Teofilo"Nene"Cubillas

Director of International & Hispanic Markets

Teofilo Cubillas Arizaga, known affectionately throughout the world as "Nene" was born March 8, 1949 at Puente Piedra near Lima, Peru. Nene's professional career started at age 16 with Alianza de Lima and he has long been associated with this premier Peruvian club. He earned 117 caps and scored 47 goals for the Peruvian National Team.
He is the 7th all-time leading scorer in World Cup history with 10 goals, scoring 5 goals each in WC'70 and WC'78. Nene was voted South American "Footballer of the Year" 1972, and NASL "Midfielder of the Year" 1981. Currently Nene works as a TV commentator and a futbol clinician in the USA and Peru. In 1999 Cubillas was appointed Minister of Sport for his native Peru, as well as being selected to the South American "11 of the Century".

• Made 3 appearances in the World Cup for Peru - 1970, 1978, 1982.
• Seventh leading scorer in World Cup History with 10 goals.
• Only player in history to score 5 goals each, in 2 World Cups.
• Runner-up to Pele in MVP balloting for the WC’70 in Mexico.
• Silver Boot Award in WC'78 - 2nd leading scorer
• Earned 117 caps for Peru and scored 47 goals.
• Scored 295 career goals with Alianza Lima.
• 1966 and 1971 leading goal scorer in Peruvian Soccer League
• 1972 Voted South American "Player of the Year"
• Played for FC Basel of the Swiss First Division for one year.
• Played for FC Porto of Portugal's First Division and lead the team in scoring for two of the three seasons he played there.
• 1975 Lead Peru to its first and only Copa America Championship
• 1977, 1978 Champion with Alianza Lima
• 1979 Signed with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the NASL
• 1981 NASL All-Star Team
• 1981 Awarded NASL Midfielder of the Year
• NASL's 16th all-time leader in points with 179 points, five seasons, 120 games, 59 goals, 61 assists.
• Named 2nd Team of All Time for NASL
• All-time leading goal scorer and point in Ft. Lauderdale Strikers History
• All-NASL player in each of his five years with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers
• Received only 1 yellow card in his 20 year career and never received a red card
• Chosen to play 4 times for World Soccer Team known as "Resto De America."
• 1999 Named to South American "Best 11 of All Time in the World"
• 1999 Minister of Sports in Peru
• One of the original founders of Futbol Masters
• Member of “FIFA Study Group”
• Technical consultant to FIFA and FPF (Peruvian Football Federation)
• 2004 Appointed An Official United Nations Peace Messenger
